(WFAA) — Kaufman County has refused to house the undocumented children who have crossed the border.
On Monday night, the commissioners court approved a resolution to "protect the health, safety and security of the residents of Kaufman County." It was a symbolic vote; it doesn't carry any legal weight.
Kaufman County Judge Bruce Wood said it was passed in good faith, knowing that immigration is a two-sided issue.
"Without being cold hearted we just are cold hearted, we're in a situation where there's not a lot we can do to do help but pray and hope that uhh. cooler head will prevail and wiser plans made and it's not politicized already more than it is."
Judge Wood adds his county is much smaller and doesn't have the vacant buildings or resources necessary to house unaccompanied minors on an emergency basis.
Wood also stated no one with the federal government has even asked him about housing any kids.
