An elderly Waco woman who gets help from Meals and Wheels is the victim of a scam. She says someone called to tell her she won a large amount of money but first needed to wire them money to receive her prize. She sent the money but didn't get come back.
Now, Meals and wheels is worried this could happen to more elderly people, and they want to get the word out to make sure it doesn't happen.
Elizabeth Zorn, Director of Meals and Wheels, says, "I would like our people especially to not give out any personal information, and if somebody says I need you to send me money before I can give you this big sum of money, it's a scam."
The call had an 8-7-6 area code, which was traced back to Jamaica. The scam was reported to the Attorney General's office. If this happens to you, you can call the Attorney General of Texas to verify a call is not a scam or to report a suspected scam.
