WACO -- Waco airports will soon be getting the controversial full-body scanners that scan under the clothes for any harmful items. With more invasive security checks at airports some passengers are worried about security getting too personal.
Right now, passengers passing through the Waco airport get pat downs if security needs to do further checking. One frequent flyer, Pete Gilmore, said he has been scanned in Dallas, and it was no big deal. "As long as I have an option to go through the scanner, that's what I'll do," said Gilmore.
It's all after TSA released the new security measures that involve security personnel checking the genital areas. If you're walking through security lines and you set off the scanner, that's when you'll be subject to a pat down.
Waco TSA says it's all professional and for your safety, but some passengers here in Waco say they have not always heard good things about the pat downs in other cities. Matt Price was traveling through the Waco airport today. "I see it as a necessary evil, unfortunately, just because one situation in history changed everything and from that moment forward hasn't been the same. It slows everything down, and I understand security but it's just a little extreme," said Price.
Passengers in some cities have refused to go through the scanners and the pat downs. Most travelers in Waco say they don't mind the scanners and would rather do that than a pat down. TSA says they aren't sure when they will be installing the scanners, and they have had no problems with the procedures so far.
