WACO -- Today was a busy day for postal workers. People lined the post office to get their packages mailed out in time for the holidays, making today their busiest day of the year.
800 million pieces of mail entered the system today, 40 percent more than an average day.
Waco postmaster, David Sanderson, warns people to be prepared when they come in this week.
"Have them wrapped and addressed and get the insurance forms, delivery confirmation forms if they want them insured against lost or damage and a confirmation to show when it was delivered. Have that stuff on it when they get up there, and the clerk basically just has to weigh it and put the postage on it," said Sanderson.
If you don't want to wait in line, you can use the automated system.
Free package pick up can be requested online.
Tuesday is the last day for packages to be sent express in time for Christmas.
