A new report shows Texas has the third highest teen birth rate of any state, and number one for repeat teen births.
In McLennan County, the number of teen pregnancies was even higher than in Dallas County. One Baylor student, Katrina Talavera, says when she moved to this area, "it was really shocking to me the number of teen girls I saw when I went to various high schools and stuff to volunteer, and I really though it needed to be addressed."
Most Texas schools teach abstinence-only education, but Planned Parenthood says sex-ed needs to be more practical, and focus on the facts. Felicia Goodman, with Planned Parenthood, says, "the only way to help people prevent unintended pregnancy is to teach them accurate, medically accurate, information about how to do so, and then provide them with the tools to do so."
Other people say it's not about the program in school. It's about personal choice, and understanding the consequences of your actions.
