CENTRAL TEXAS -- Local businesses paired up with the Capital Area Food Bank Friday to gather literally tons of food. Hundreds of thousands pounds of food was gathered in Belton, Temple and Salado.
It's called the Friends Feeding Friends food drive. Directors say with the bad economy, food pantries are some of the last organizations to recover. and there are families out there in need.
"You don't think people in Belton and Temple and Salado are actually out there and hungry, that they cant provide for their families," said Temple Belton Board of Realtor's Brett Turner. "There are people out there that don't have meals to put on their table, and it's just a very humbling experience to be able to be a part of that."
The goal was to collect 150,000 lbs. of non-perishable food. The items were taken to local food pantries and will be given to families in need.
