A local hospital has been running short on some major medications.
Employees at Scott and White Hospital in Temple say its the worst drug shortage they have ever seen. Their lacking not only major medications, but also basic supplies
Because generic drugs are more popular, some manufacturers are leaving the business, and FDA inspections are making it harder to get raw materials to make the drugs. Now hospitals are looking at other options.
Scott and White's Sr. Finance Manager for Pharmacy Purchasing says, their having to buy more expensive drug alternatives, and using drugs that were used years ago.
Dr. Emory Martin says they alternatives are acceptable and have not put patients at risk, up till now.
The pharmacy staff has a meeting every day to discuss the shortages, and find alternatives until supplies are buck up. However, they say the most difficult part is not knowing when the shortage will end.
