Wednesday night, the Waco ISD school board agreed to terminate nearly 200 teachers contracts for next school year. They say that is the worst case scenario, and plan to rehire most of those teachers.
Officials say this is a way to prepare the teachers for the worst, but are hoping for the best. The school board says they want to rehire all but eight of the laid-off teachers, but now the question is, will those teachers stick around, knowing their job is in jeopardy?
School officials say a great amount of teachers have chosen to resign, rather than being terminated.
President of the school board says he only wants what is best for the school, and their teachers. Williams says, "I would like them to continue to trust in Waco ISD, and believe in the fact that we're trying desperately, lookin under every rock, so we might be able to keep the good teachers that we have here in Waco."
