KILLEEN (UPDATE) -- Two are dead in Killeen after a father shoots his five-year-old daughter before turning the gun on himself.
Family members wipe the tears from each others' eyes outside the home where 37-year-old Anthony Means shot his five-year-old daughter, Nina, and then turned the gun on himself.
Neighbors like Romeo Berry were out in the streets, shocked by the news.
"It hurts. It hurts being so close," said Berry.
A family member arrived at the home on Coach drive just after 4:00 a.m. Thursday, finding the pair with gunshot wounds. Emergency responders tried to save the little girl, but she was pronounced dead an hour later.
Family members were too distraught to talk about what happened, but they did gather at the home, meeting with investigators and grieving their loss.
Neighbor Romeo Berry says as a father, it's tragic hearing of a child involved.
"I have a daughter here that baby sits, and you know it could happen to anybody. But for it to happen on your street in your neighborhood, its like man, really, it hurts," said Berry.
Police agree. Carroll Smith with the police department says cases like this are some of the hardest.
"A child is defenseless. You look for, a child looks for a parent to save them from harm, not to put them in it or to cause them harm," said Smith.
Investigators are still working to find out why Means shot his little girl and then himself, but officials say we may never know
