WACO -- It's hard for most of us to even imagine surviving Texas summers without some form of air conditioning.
So a group of businesses in Waco is asking for your help and donations in keeping families cool.
"There's always folks, that are out there on the streets, some of the homeless. We need to make sure we are taking care of our community," said Gary Moore, CEO of Waco Housing Authority.
In this sweltering heat even the simplest resources are crucial.
"There are a lot of complexes around the community that are in need of central air , these fans are gonna be something that will possibly save some people's lives," said Moore.
Kyle Binner of Greg May Honda, a partner in the effort said so far, donations have been small but they're hoping to get the word out to increase that number.
"We're here, we're open six days a week, they can stop by anytime during normal business hours, and drop off whatever they would like to, and we got a spot set up for donations and we'd really like to get a few more," said Binner.
At the end of the campaign the Waco Housing Authority will decide which families will receive the donations.
"The main criteria is need. Wherever we find the need, we will try to supply these resources to that need," said Moore.
And he is confident that need will be met.
"I think our community has always stepped up to the plate and I don't expect any difference in this particular incidence."
