WACO -- Tough news for kids. They may have be in school longer than they already are.
Tonight Waco ISD met to discuss the possibility of extending the instructional day for elementary schools by 15 minutes and 30-to-45 minutes for middle and high school students.
For teachers, officials say this will give them more time to prepare for the next school day and for the students the increased time should benefit them in the long run.
"With the increased requirements that we have coming from the state, the more class time we can give those students, the better they're going to do on those tests, and obviously, it's all about the kids," said Dale Caffey, Public Information officer for Waco ISD.
Caffey said the extra 15 minutes doesn't sound like much but over time it adds up.
The move would also bring the ISD more in line with other area district's like Midway and China Spring.
