Two men are Killeen police custody after a cab driver was robbed early Monday morning.
Officers responded to 1701 Terrace at 2:00am on Monday, July 25, 2011, after receiving a 911 call telling them a cab driver with the Luxury Cab Company was just robbed by two black males wearing dark clothing.
The driver was dispatched to 1701 Terrace to pick up a fare. When he arrived he was approached by a black male wearing all dark clothing who asked to sit up front with him. The driver unlocked the door and the suspect and another black male that came out of the wooded area entered the vehicle and demanded his money; both suspects were armed.
At approximately 3:30am the victim contacted the police department and told them he had seen the suspects who robbed him earlier, they ran into the wooded area at 1701 Terrace. Officers arrived and were directed to the area where the suspects were seen by the victim. An officer located three males on the stairs at 1701 Terrace building #9; they fit the description of the suspects from the earlier robbery. As the officers were speaking with the males another officer was with the victim who identified the two men who robbed him. The suspects were taken into custody and transported to the Killeen City Jail. One of the suspects who had given officers a fictitious name was positively identified as Preston Jacorey Triplett; he had outstanding warrants for Burglary of a Habitation, Evading Arrest or Detention and Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle.
This case was reviewed by the Bell County District Attorney’s Office and complaints were returned charging both suspects with Aggravated Robbery; Justice of the Peace Garland Potvin set each of their bonds at $100,000 each for the Aggravated Robbery charge. Triplett also received a $50,000 bond for the Burglary of a Habitation, a $30,000 bond for the Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle, a $5,000 bond for the Evading Arrest and Detention and a $5,000 bond for the Failure to Identify Fugitive. They will be transferred to the Bell County Jail later today.
