WACO -- The Waco police are looking to increase the female presence among the entire police force.
Currently Waco only has 26 officers that are female, which is only 10 percent of the entire force.
The male-dominated profession is in need of female officers who can bring something different to the table.
Especially in situations like arresting and searching female suspects and in dealing with sexual assault victims and children.
"Sometimes it helps to have a little, a different aspect of having a male officer or a female officer for somebody to approach. there may be circumstances where a kid may be a little more, um, at ease talking to a female officer," said Sgt. Patrick Swanton, Waco PD Information Officer.
Not only is Waco recruiting more women, but they are also reaching out to minorities.
Swanton says having a diverse police force enables Waco PD to have a fair representation of who they are servicing out in the community.
The last day to submit an application is by noon of September 9th.
