BRYAN -- On Friday we broke the news that former Brazos County deputy constable, Agustin Rubio, was arrested for the second time in less than two and a half weeks.
So today, Fox 28 hit the streets, to get reaction from those that lived closest to him.
Agustin Rubio's neighbors always felt safe living in their neighborhood. They had a Bryan police officer on one side of the street and a deputy constable on the other.
"The first time I drove down here, that's the first thing I noticed, that we have two law enforcement officers. I was talking to my wife and was like, oh you know it's not the best side of town coming through on the way back here, but it was just comforting to know that we did have two law officers," said neighbor Justin Tidey.
But that all changed last Friday, when Rubio was arrested again. This time on charges of criminal attempt sexual assault.
Neighbors Fox 28 spoke to today said they thought they lived in an extremely safe neighborhood with a police officer living on one side and Rubio living on the other. Now they say that sense of security has been changed.
Tidey said, "we moved in here and we felt comfortable, you know we felt safe having two police officers in the neighborhood so hearing this is just shocking, kind of creeps me out a little bit that that type of person lives in the neighborhood and just got arrested for it."
But officials at Bryan ISD, one of Rubio's former employers, are not surprised by the allegations.
In February of 1997, Rubio resigned just days after a ninth grader claimed he had inappropriate contact with her.
"Well I can't say that I'm shocked by many things anymore but it's a coincidence obviously. There does seem to be some sort of similarity in the two situations"
An investigation was launched into those allegations but Rubio was never charged.
Other neighbors we spoke to, that declined to go on camera, said Rubio is a nice guy and a good friend.
