WACO -- For the past five years, February has been the worst month for the flu in Central Texas.
Many times the early symptoms of the flu are very similar to a common cold.
So here are some of the early signs of the flu to look for when you're contemplating going to the doctor:
"Typically they give you a higher fever, 103's, 104's, not uncommon at all. The body aches. Usually the intense body aches and things like that, little more with the flu than a cold. Also, the other constitutional symptoms, the G.I. problems, vomiting, diarrhea, a lot of times that's more the flu than the cold," Dr. Eddy Dark with Central Texas Urgent Care.
Doctors say in order to treat the flu you must do it within 48 hours of contracting the virus.
But the best way to avoid it altogether, is by getting the flu shot.
