WACO -- This week is National Crime Victims' Rights Week and we were there as Central Texas activists kicked off the event this morning with speakers and a balloon release.
This years theme is "Extending the Vision: Reaching Every Victim," and if you drive by the McLennan County Court House this week you'll see pinwheels representing the 3, 222 victims the county supported last year.
While they celebrated their success in the past, McLennan County District Attorney Abel Reyna says we also need to look towards the future to continue helping the victims of crime.
"While we applaud the successes of the past, let us also rededicate ourselves to the goal of promoting awareness to the rights, needs and concerns of crime victims and survivors in our areas. We must reach every victim," Reyna said in his speech by the courthouse today.
National Crime Victims' Rights Week (NCVRW) began in 1981 to help the public become aware of the help available to victims of crimes.
