New York — Tonight marks the beginning of the 77th annual “meat market”, also known as the NFL draft. Over the next three days, 253 new members will be welcomed into the NFL.
There should be little drama with the first two picks in tonight’s draft. The Indianapolis Colts selecting Andrew Luck with the first overall pick is almost as certain as death and taxes. Coach Shanahan of the Washington Redskins told the press, selecting Robert Griffin III with the second overall pick is a 99.9% certainty.
However, beyond the first two guaranteed picks it’s any NFL prognosticators best bet. After countless mock drafts from the “NFL experts”, it’s finally time for the draft gurus to take a back seat to the actual draft.
As is true in years past, draft drama will most undoubtedly unfold. This year marks a record 26 former college players attending the first round draft tonight at Radio City Music Hall in New York City. With only 32 selections the first night, its hard not to imagine some unfortunate young man in his oversized collar waiting alone in the green room while his peers hear their name called before his.
Analysts believe the Dallas Cowboys will use their first pick of the 2012 Draft on the defensive side of the ball. Meanwhile, the Houston Texans choice could go either way.
The first round kicks off tonight at 8:00 p.m. ET, and will continue through Saturday, April 28th.
