WACO -- Two small children were killed in a house fire in Waco over the weekend and the fire department has now determined that it was caused by an electrical short in the front part of the house.
It happened on the 1900 block of Cleveland around 2 Saturday morning, when Victoria Valenzuela, 21, was woken up by the fire.
Her two nieces, ages 4 and 11 months, were in the front bedroom where the fire started. She, her son and nephew were in the back room.
"She woke up due to the fire, was able to her baby and her 6 year old nephew and get out of the back of the house. Once she got them to safety she went back to try to get back in and was not able to get into the home due to the intensity of the flames," Sgt. Patrick Swanton with the Waco Police Department said.
Waco police tell us 4-year-old Eliana Gonzales and 11-month old Rayah Hernandez died in the fire, but there is no evidence of foul play.
Valenzuela and her 4-month-old son Javier were transferred to Parkland Hospital in Dallas but have since been discharged.
Six-year-old Joe Gonzalez IV was treated at Hillcrest Hospital and released.
