TEMPLE -- It's the second largest drug seizure in Temple in less than a month.
"It was over 88 pounds of marijuana in pre-packaged plastic and over $13,000 in cash," said Sgt. Brad Hunt, Temple P.D.
28-year-old Danny Saavedra was arrested at his home in the 700 block of 9th Street during the seizure at 10:15 Monday morning.
This bust comes just weeks after another significant bust.
"Last month's seizure of over a 100 pounds from a completely unrelated suspect and seizing his $17,000 in that case is that our techniques for investigating things are thorough. They are going to get caught," said Hunt.
All together the drugs seized have an estimated street value of over $200,000.
Saavedra is charged with felony possession of marijuana over 50 pounds.
By tomorrow a judge will review the case and when Saavedra goes to trial he could face a lengthy jail sentence.
Police say they hope this will help lower the amount of drug activity in the area.
"That's been the intended message from the get go is to make there be more of a punishment for doing this kind of activity," said Hunt.
