Brownsville, Tx — A weekend bomb threat at the University of Texas at Brownsville has led to the arrest of a Harlingen student.
“This will be the second bomb threat and I have been here for twenty years and I take any bomb threat seriously,” says UTB Police Chief John Cardoza.
Police say 25-year-old Henry McFarland was arrested Sunday afternoon after the suspect called in a bomb threat to a national crisis hotline. Reports indicate that McFarland made the threat after another student made a derogatory comment against Islam that was directed at the suspect.
“He was upset to the point that he was going to come back onto campus this following week and blow him and up and blow up a building,” says Cardoza.
Authorities searched McFarland’s home and found no weapons or explosives. A search was also conducted on campus which also led to zero findings.
McFarland appeared in court Monday morning where he was issued a $10,000 dollar bond.
