Waco, TX - Heart of Texas Regional Advisory Council (HOTRAC) is dedicated to providing education in helping prevent strokes. To honor World Stroke Day, HOTRAC will be promoting “Stomp out Stroke” in an effort to educate the community on stroke awareness and prevention. It aims to encourage people to understand stroke risk factors, ways to recognize the warning signs of stroke, and how to take action if a stroke occurs. On Monday, October 29th, Healthcare Partners in the Region will be providing free stroke screenings to the general public. The screenings will be offered at various locations throughout the Region from 1:00 PM-3:00 PM.
Every year, approximately 795,000 Americans have a stroke, killing 144,000 and forever changing the lives of many who survive. It is the leading cause of severe long-term disability. Many risk factors for a stroke are beyond someone’s control; that is why it is even more important people learn about the lifestyle and medical changes they can make to prevent it from happening. Up to 80% of all strokes are preventable through risk factor management.
The National Stroke Association (NSA) recommends and encourages everyone to know how to reduce stroke risks, recognize stroke symptoms, and respond quickly at the first signs of a stroke. To assist in this cause, Healthcare Partners in the HOTRAC Region will provide free stroke screenings. This service will be provided on Monday, October 29th, at multiple locations throughout the HOTRAC service area. No appointment is necessary, and anyone may visit any of the following locations:
Hill Regional Hospital – Wal-Mart Pharmacy (Hillsboro)
Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center – Drug Emporium (Waco)
Limestone Medical Center – Front Lobby of Hospital (Groesbeck)
Parkview Regional Hospital – Clinic at the Hospital (Mexia)
Providence Health Center – Wal-Mart Pharmacy (Franklin Avenue – Waco)
Waco-McLennan County Public Health District – Health District Training Room (Waco Drive – Waco)
