The Salvation Army appealing for donations in Waco, Texas

Monday, December 17, 2012 - 3:31pm

The Salvation Army is appealing to the community for support to make Christmas brighter for families in McLennan County. With only a few days to go until Christmas The Salvation Army is behind in its holiday fundraising goal.

Of course, the red kettle tradition continues in McLennan County with bell ringers stationed at storefronts collecting donations that are used to help local children, seniors, and families in need. “We have seen an increase in requests for assistance this Christmas and currently our fundraising is falling behind our goal,” explained Major Dan Ford. “The Salvation Army is committed to providing gifts to the children and food to the families who have come to us for help this Christmas and I am asking the people of McLennan County to go the extra mile, and not pass the kettle without putting in a donation.”

Indeed, November and December is the biggest Salvation Army fundraising effort of the year, not only supporting important Christmas assistance, but also providing essential funds that sustain year round programs that help individuals and families with utilities, rent, food, clothing, furniture and much more.

Another way people can help The Salvation Army is to volunteer their time. Businesses, churches, schools, civic clubs, and individuals are invited to sign up to ring a bell at one of The Salvation Army red kettles. If you have never volunteered as a bell ringer this is a fun, fulfilling way to get into the Christmas spirit while at the same time being part of an organization and effort that will make a difference in the lives of so many in the coming weeks and months. If you can give just one hour, a few hours, or even an entire day, please contact The Salvation Army at 254.756.7271. We have times available for bell ringers as well as numerous other volunteer opportunities.

The Salvation Army kettle campaign is even more crucial this year, when charitable income is down while even more individuals and families are seeking Salvation Army assistance. So please don’t forget to give at The Salvation Army red kettles this season.
