Shoppers beat Black Friday rush by shopping around it

It appears Black Friday hardly waits for Thanksgiving to end before stores open their doors. This leaves us wondering—how many people are sitting around on the holiday waiting for their favorite store to open?

Typically, Black Friday is the most shopped day of the year. However, as stores have started opening earlier and earlier for those sales, consumers are deciding to beat the rush by shopping sooner.

“Black Friday is not the only day anymore. Customers have come to expect that we’ll have good prices all year long and good prices leading up to black Friday as well,” said Best Buy Connectivity Sales Manager, Jay Martinez.
 

Already, the National Retail Federation reports nearly 53 percent of Americans have already begun their shopping, an increase from last year. However, there are some, like those who camped outside of Best Buy since Wednesday, who will wait for early Friday door busters. With the rush comes extra incentives.
 

“Some products may be offered with additional gift cards for Target. And, others may just be at a discounted price,” said Jessica Tindall, a Target Manager.
 

However, local stores, like BJoy Bijoux, say it’s not about black Friday for them. Instead, they capitalize on small business Saturday.
 

“Small business is the engine that drives this economy. And, it’s going to continue to thrive. But, we’re trying to make people more aware,” said Dr. Brenda Atchinson, owner of BJoy Bijoux.
Atchinson says by breaking the habit of convenience shopping, through chain retailers, your bucks could support the local economy. Either way, everyone hopes to make a large profit from the NRF’s projected increase in holiday spending this year.
