Teenager accused of starting fire at Temple High School in January

A fire investigation conducted by the Temple Fire Marshal, Temple Police and Temple ISD into a fire started at Temple High School, which lead to an evacuation, has been completed. A juvenile suspect has been identified. The case has been referred to the County Attorney’s Office.

On January 22, Temple Fire and Rescue responded to Temple High School, located at 415 North 31st Street.

Rescuers arrived to find students and staff evacuated from the building and reported light smoke coming out of a hallway. Firefighters located the source as a fire in a bathroom which was extinguished.

Damage was limited to the bathroom. School officials told fire investigators they extinguished a bathroom fire earlier today.

The call was dispatched at 1:59 p.m. The first unit arrived at 2:03 p.m.; fire under control was given at 2:12 p.m. All units cleared at 3:00 p.m. Five Engine Companies, one Ladder Truck Company, one Fire Incident Commander, two support personnel; a total of 21 Temple Fire & Rescue personnel responded. Scott & White EMS also responded.
