A local teenager is awaiting punishment after pleading guilty to shooting his, then-15-year-old girlfriend in the head.

James Lee Saulters, 18, pleaded guilty to ‘Aggravated Assault Dating Violence’ in a McLennan County Courthouse yesterday.

The incident happened on December 23, 2011.

According to witnesses, Saulters and his girlfriend had been arguing with each other in a parked car.

After things got heated, Saulters threatened to shoot her.

After even more arguing, Saulters loaded a .22 handgun and shot his girlfriend at point blank range.

The girlfriend survived.
