A Temple man has been charged with felony possession of a controlled substance, following his arrest last Thursday, after officers stopped him for failing to follow directions.

According to the police report, an officer was directing traffic at a minor crash on Thursday, in the 200 block of South General Bruce Drive. Monquaile Tyrone Lawrence, 26, of Temple then drove up and reportedly disregarded the officer's directions and was stopped. Lawrence then provided false identifying information to the officer. Upon further investigation, the officer discovered Lawrence's license was suspended. Lawrence was then arrested, and officers found an amount of a controlled substance in his possession. Lawrence reportedly attempted to stomp the substance under his foot, in an obvious attempt to destroy the evidence.

The Bell County District Attorney's office has filed a felony possession charge against Lawrence. Charges for tampering with physical evidence are being held at this time.
