(College Station, TX) – November 15, 2012— USDA Texas Farm Service Agency (FSA) Acting Executive Director, James B. Douglass today announced that Texas Small Farmers and Ranchers Community Based Organization and USDA are hosting a public meeting in McLennan County on November 20 at 6:00 PM to discuss USDA programs and the Hispanic and Women Farmers and Ranchers Claims Process at the Bellmead Civic Center in the Lions Room located at 3900 Parish St. in Bellmead. Douglass will discuss the claims process and employees from Texas Farm Service Agency (FSA), Rural Development (RD) and the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) will provide program updates.
Hispanic and women farmers and ranchers who farmed or attempted to farm between 1981 and 2000, who allege USDA discrimination when seeking USDA farm loan assistance are encouraged to attend this meeting. Producers who are interested in learning about FSA, RD or NRCS programs are also encouraged to attend this meeting.
Douglass notes, “USDA Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack has announced that the Hispanic and Women Farmers and Ranchers claims period opened September 24, 2012 and will close on March 25, 2013.”
