EL PASO --- Thousands of students across the state of Texas will be taking the new Texas Assessment of Academic Readiness, or STAAR starting Monday.

The new STAAR test replaces the TAKS test for students from grades 3 to 8. Students in third through eight grade will be tested in Reading and Math. Fourth and seventh grade students will also be tested in writing, and fifth and eighth graders will also test in science.

The new test is harder, and for the first time ever it will be timed.

Starting in 9th grade, the TAKS is replaced with end-of-course (EOC) exams.

The exams will not count toward a students course grade, but a total of 12 end of course exams need to be passed in order for students to graduate high school.

This test is ridiculous!!!! Way above grade level questions, and I am pissed that my son is a straight A student, and because of preparations for the star test he has a C average in Math!! STAAR test is bringing down Texas students! Bull S***!!!!

The studying my child has had to do and his grades have gone down because of this stupid test, go back to taks at least it is fare and not above level grade of teaching!!! sTAAR sucks
