BRYAN -- A Bryan man is lucky to be alive tonight after being stabbed in the chest during an argument over a relationship.

Police tell us the fight happened at the Shell Gas station off Texas Avenue Saturday night.

A police officer, who just happened to be driving by , noticed the disturbance and was able to break up the fight.

We're told 35-year-old Valentin Vega JR. attacked Jason Adams because Vega's girlfriend was allegedly leaving him for the victim.

"It's very good circumstances that the officer happened to be driving by at the time," said Officer Kelley McKethan. "It does happen from time to time that we happen upon a criminal offense and that was the case in this situation."

Vega is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

The victim is expected to recover from his injuries.
