A Central Texas police officer is in critical condition, after he was ejected from his SUV early Friday morning.

According to DPS Spokesman, D.L. Wilson, the Marlin Police Chief, Darrell Allen, was headed home at 2:30 a.m. from an off-duty assignment. Allen was traveling southbound on Highway 6, north of Marlin, near County Road 121. For reasons unknown at this time, Allen's 2004 Ford Explorer left the roadway before rolling over numerous times and ejecting him from the vehicle.

Allen was taken by Capital EMS to Hillcrest Hospital. Wilson says Allen was still listed in critical condition as of 8:30 a.m.

Allen has been the police chief in Marlin for four years.
