Scott and White to only hire tobacco-free employees
COLLEGE STATION, TX — Everyone knows smoking is bad for you but it is a personal choice.
However, a new policy change at Scott and White Hospital means employees will have to choose between smoking or losing their job.
The new tobacco-free policy goes into effect January 1, 2013 meaning all new hires will have to sign a statement saying they don't smoke or use other tobacco products.
If they do -- they won't be eligible for employment.
In College Station. the Scott and White Hospital now under construction is beginning the hiring process so this new policy will affect around 200 new positions.
"Many of those position will happen after January 1, 2013 so that means all those positions hired after the first will fall under the new guidelines for our smoking policy," said Lindsay Joy with Scott and White.
Employees will be randomly drug tested to test for tobacco products in their system.
All current employees at Scott and White will be grandfathered into the policy change.
