The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Heart of Texas Regional Advisory Council have teamed up to sponsor a "Get Outdoors" Sport Show and Safety Fair. The event will be held March 23 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and March 24 from 10 a.m. to 4.p.m., at Twin Bridges Park off of Highway 6 near the twin bridges in Waco.
There will be recreational vehicles, boats and ATVs on display, along with dozens of other outdoor related activities and product exhibits.
Local public safety agencies will provide information and products promoting safety while visitors enjoy the outdoors. Various public safety agencies will have equipment on display, and Waco Fire Department will have their "smoke house" to teach kids how to exit a burning house.
In addition, parents can have their children fingerprinted and have child safety seats inspected. Other safety information will be provided on boating and swimming safety, all terrain vehicle safety, bicycle safety, Stranger Danger, and many other activities. For children and the kid in all of us, visitors can try their hand at fishing, kayaking, stand-up paddle boarding, and model airplane flying. There will also be demonstrations on falconry, Waco Police Department K-9s, and dog agility throughout the day.
This family-oriented fair will promote safe family involvement in outdoor activities. Admission is free, as is food, drinks as well as door prizes and give-ways. For more information on the event, contact Park Ranger Elizabeth Anderson at (254) 756-5359, or email at: Elizabeth.firstname.lastname@example.org.
