Worst passwords of 2012 released, did yours make the list?

Friday, December 7, 2012 - 1:09pm

Did you have a problem with spam or identity theft this year? If so, it may have been because you're passwords are too easy for hackers to get into.

SplashData, who makes password management applications, has released its list of 25 worst passwords this year. Topping the list are passwords like "password", "1234", "abc123", "iloveyou", and "letmein".
New to the list this year is “welcome”. Research shows many people aren't even changing their default passwords.

“Typically, that’s what hackers will use, last names, things that are easy. And, that gives them access to bank accounts, email accounts, things like that,” said Sergeant Patrick Swanton of the Waco Police Department.

So, if your password made the list, you might want to change it. To make your password stronger, consider using a combination of numbers and letters. Use spaces, lower and uppercase letters, and punctuation marks. And, try to stay away from using family names.
